Gender-based Awareness

Our Gender-Based Awareness Groups provide life-changing sessions on women’s legal rights, female genital mutilation (FGM), gender norms and recognizing abuse. These sessions are often the first time women receive clear, culturally sensitive, and accessible information about their rights, consent, and where to seek help.

The journey towards a violence free life

Our Gender-Based Awareness Groups provide life-changing sessions on women’s legal rights, female genital mutilation (FGM), gender norms and recognizing abuse. These sessions are often the first time women receive clear, culturally sensitive, and accessible information about their rights, consent, and where to seek help.

In 2025, we launched Domestic Abuse Support Groups, specifically designed for mothers who have experienced or are currently facing intimate partner violence. These groups offer emotional support, trauma-informed guidance, and practical assistance, helping women understand their rights, their options, and the pathways to safety. By fostering a community of strength and resilience, we create a safe space where women can heal, regain their confidence, and rebuild their lives—one step at a time.

Physically and sexually abused

I was physically and sexually abused by my brother as well as badly injured. In the hospital, they didn’t think I would live but no one blamed my brother. They didn’t even want to accept that he had done this to me. I left to save my life. But what he did was wrong. I wish I could go back because I would confront him now and not run away.

My husband beat me regularly

My husband beat me regularly, very often. My mother-in-law scolded and humiliated me if I said anything about it. But now I know I have rights and I don’t want to accept it any longer.

For many vulnerable women and girls, particularly refugees and migrants, the journey to safety is fraught with violence, extortion, and exploitation. This is not only a reality for women traveling alone but also for mothers with children, women traveling with male relatives, or those escaping abusive situations. Many of the mothers we welcome have endured gender-based violence, coercion, or abuse, and some are raising children conceived in traumatic circumstances.
